Los Angeles has some of the most congested roads in the country, and a serious crash can leave a driver with medical bills, lost income and a fight with an insurance adjuster who is not on their side. Choosing a car accident lawyer is a personal decision, but a ranked starting point helps.
How we rank: firms below are ordered by their LawyersTrend LT Rank, a score built from verified verdicts, recognition, experience and bar standing. It is not a recommendation or a guarantee of results. See our ranking methodology. Sponsored listings are paid placements, are not ranked, and carry no LT Rank score.

What to look for in a Los Angeles car accident lawyer
Look for a firm that handles injury cases every day, not occasionally. Ask who will actually work on the file, how often the firm takes cases to trial rather than settling every claim, and how it handles medical bills while the case is open. Most plaintiff-side injury firms in California work on a contingency basis, which means no fee unless there is a recovery, but fee percentages and cost arrangements differ, so get them in writing.
California rules that shape a car accident claim
California follows a pure comparative negligence rule, so a driver who was partly at fault can still recover, with the award reduced by their share of fault. The general deadline to file a personal injury lawsuit is two years from the date of injury (Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1), and claims against a city, county or other public entity involve a much shorter claim deadline, commonly six months. Drivers must also carry minimum liability insurance, and uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage on your own policy can matter a great deal if the at-fault driver has little coverage.
After the crash: first steps
Get medical care, even if you feel fine. Photograph the scene and vehicles, collect witness contact details, and report the crash to your insurer. Be careful about giving a recorded statement to the other driver's insurer before you understand your injuries, and keep every bill and record. A short consultation with a lawyer, which most firms offer without charge, can clarify your options before deadlines pass.
