<p>Levin &amp; Perconti has practiced plaintiff-side personal injury and medical malpractice litigation from its Chicago offices since founders Steven M. Levin and John J. Perconti merged their practices in 1992. The firm now fields more than 30 attorneys handling medical malpractice, birth injury, nursing home and group home abuse, brain and spinal cord injury, and wrongful death matters. It holds bar admissions in Illinois, Wisconsin, the District of Columbia, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York, accepting cases statewide and on a national basis in select federal matters.</p><p>The firm's trial record in obstetrical and perinatal malpractice has drawn particular attention in Illinois courts. In December 2023, a Cook County birth injury case against the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center resolved for $29 million on the eve of closing arguments, as documented in the firm's published case reports. In 2023, working alongside Spiros Law, P.C., Levin &amp; Perconti secured a $40 million jury verdict in a birth injury matter at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center—described by the firm as the largest medical malpractice verdict in Illinois outside Cook County. The firm has also documented a $27 million verdict for a family whose child sustained hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy injuries. These results are disclosed as historical outcomes and carry no implication of comparable results in any future matter.</p><p>Peer recognition has been consistent across several rating systems. In 2026, Illinois Super Lawyers® named 21 firm attorneys—11 as Super Lawyers and 10 as Rising Stars. Managing Partner Margaret Battersby Black became the first Levin &amp; Perconti attorney placed on the Super Lawyers® Illinois Top 10 list and was also named to the Top 50 Women roster.
